The Department of Economics was established in the year 1992 with the undergraduate program. Prof.Babukkutty Thomas was the first Head of the Department. Later in 2005 Prof M.T.Kuttiachan took charge as the Head of the Department. At present, there are 200 students studying in the department with Dr. Silvi T.S as the Head of the Department since 2016. The department was elevated to a Post Graduate Department in the year 2014, with BA Economics in the aided and MA Economics in the self-financing stream. It has six faculty members with notable academic tracks and has ICT-enabled classrooms and a library at the department level. The members of the faculty have served as members of the Board of Studies (UG), the University of Calicut and have undertaken minor projects of UGC under the 12th plan. The department has already 27 outgone batches.
