Overview:
ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റൃൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ടെക്നോളജി (IIT) എന്നത് ഉയർന്ന നിലവാരമുള്ള ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരെയും എഞ്ചിനീയർമാരെയും സാങ്കേതിക വിദഗ്ധരെയും സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഇന്ത്യൻ ഗവണ്മെൻ്റ് തന്നെ സ്ഥാപിച്ച വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു കൂട്ടായ്മയാണ്. ഐഐടികളുടെ ആശയം ആദ്യമായി ഉടെലെടുത്തത് 1945-ൽ ഒരു റിപ്പോർട്ടിലാണ്. അന്നത്തെ എജ്യുക്കേഷൻ ഓൺ വൈസ്രോയ്സ് എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് കൗൺസിൽ അംഗമായ N.M.Sircar -ൻ്റേതായിരുന്നു ആ റിപ്പോർട്ട്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ശുപാർശകളെ തുടർന്ന് 1950-ൽ ഖരഗ്പുരിൽ ആദ്യത്തെ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ടെക്നോളജി സ്ഥാപിതമായി. ഓട്ടോണോമസ് സംബ്രതായതിലുള്ള ഈ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാം വെവ്വേറെ ഡയറക്ടർ ബോർഡുകളും ഉണ്ട്. ഈ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള പ്രവേശനം ഒരു ജോയിൻ്റ് എൻട്രൻസ് പരീക്ഷയിലൂടെയാണ് (IIT-JEE) നടക്കുന്നത്. ഈ പരീക്ഷ രണ്ടു ഘട്ടങ്ങളിയായാണ് നടക്കുന്നത് 'IIT - Main', 'IIT - Advanced'. ഓരോ ഘട്ടങ്ങളിലും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ ഫിൽറ്റർ ചെയ്യുന്നു.
1958 -ലാണ് IITB സ്ഥാപിതമായത്. മുംബൈയുടെ വടക്കൻ പ്രാന്തപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ പവായിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റൃൂട്ടിലെ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ തിരക്കേറിയ സാമ്പത്തിക തലസ്ഥാനത്തായിരിക്കുന്നതിൻ്റെ നേട്ടം കൊയ്യുന്നതിനോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ പ്രകൃതി സൗന്ദര്യത്തിന് പേരുകേട്ട കാമ്പസിൻ്റെ ശാന്തതയും ആസ്വദിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു സമ്പൂർണ റെസിഡൻ്റിൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റൃൂട്ട് കൂടിയായ IITB യിൽ ഏകദേശം പതിനഞ്ചോളം 'ഇൻ ഹൗസ് ഡൈനിങ്ങ്' സൗകര്യത്തോടു കൂടിയുള്ള ഹോസ്റ്റലുകൾ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്കായി സജ്ജമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. തങ്ങളുട ഗവേഷണ പ്രോഗ്രാമുകളും അതോടൊപ്പം വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സംബന്ധമായ പരിപാടികളും മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിന് വേണ്ടി ദേശീയ അന്തർദേശീയ തലങ്ങളിലുള്ള പിയർ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റികളുമായും ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റൃൂട്ടുകളുമായും ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടു IITB പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു.

- B.V.Sc., B.P.Th. , B.O.Th.) (Duration 4 years or more). Must qualify All India level postgraduate entrance examination for M.V.Sc., M.P.Th., and M.O.Th. GATE examination for all such health science backgrounds.

3. Ph.D (Humanities and Social Sciences)
Eligibility:
- An applicant to the Ph.D programme at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences should meet one of the following requirements:
- The applicant should have obtained at least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST) in M.A. or equivalent degree in Humanities / Social Sciences subjects, OR
- A First Class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Master’s degree in Science / Commerce / Graduate Degree in Engineering / Technology will be considered for research areas consistent with the academic background and special interests of the applicant, OR
- An M.Phil. degree in any of the six disciplines (pertaining to the research areas listed below) or in any allied subjects, or an M.Phil. in “Humanities and Social Sciences with specialization in Planning and Development” awarded by IIT Bombay.
- A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience for Sponsored or External Category (EX) and Self Financing Category (SF) is mandatory. To be considered for the Institute Teaching Assistantship (TA), the applicant must possess a valid GATE score or have qualified the CSIR/ UGC/ ICSSR/ ICPR/ MET/ an equivalent qualifying examination.
