IIT Madras:
Overview:
ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റൃൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ടെക്നോളജി (IIT) എന്നത് ഉയർന്ന നിലവാരമുള്ള ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരെയും എഞ്ചിനീയർമാരെയും സാങ്കേതിക വിദഗ്ധരെയും സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഇന്ത്യൻ ഗവണ്മെൻ്റ് തന്നെ സ്ഥാപിച്ച വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു കൂട്ടായ്മയാണ്. ഐഐടികളുടെ ആശയം ആദ്യമായി ഉടെലെടുത്തത് 1945-ൽ ഒരു റിപ്പോർട്ടിലാണ്. അന്നത്തെ എജ്യുക്കേഷൻ ഓൺ വൈസ്രോയ്സ് എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് കൗൺസിൽ അംഗമായ N.M.Sircar -ൻ്റേതായിരുന്നു ആ റിപ്പോർട്ട്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ശുപാർശകളെ തുടർന്ന് 1950-ൽ ഖരഗ്പുരിൽ ആദ്യത്തെ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ടെക്നോളജി സ്ഥാപിതമായി. ഓട്ടോണോമസ് സംബ്രതായതിലുള്ള ഈ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാം വെവ്വേറെ ഡയറക്ടർ ബോർഡുകളും ഉണ്ട്. ഈ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള പ്രവേശനം ഒരു ജോയിൻ്റ് എൻട്രൻസ് പരീക്ഷയിലൂടെയാണ് (IIT-JEE) നടക്കുന്നത്. ഈ പരീക്ഷ രണ്ടു ഘട്ടങ്ങളിയായാണ് നടക്കുന്നത് 'IIT - Main', 'IIT - Advanced'. ഓരോ ഘട്ടങ്ങളിലും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ ഫിൽറ്റർ ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ജർമൻ ഗവൺമെൻ്റിൻ്റെ ടെക്നിക്കൽ അസ്സിസ്റ്റൻസോടുകൂടി 1959 -ൽ ആണ് IIT Madras പ്രവർത്തനം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം, അടിസ്ഥാനപരവും പ്രായോഗികവുമായ ഗവേഷണം, നവീകരണം, സംരംഭകത്വം, വ്യാവസായിക കൺസൾട്ടൻസി എന്നിവയിലെ മികവിന് ദേശീയമായും അന്തർദേശീയമായും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു സ്ഥാപനംകൂടിയാണ് IIT Madras. ഏകദേശം 550 ഫാക്കൽറ്റികളും 8000 വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളും 1250 അഡ്മിനിസ്ട്രേറ്റീവ് & സപ്പോർട്ടിംഗ് സ്റ്റാഫുകളുമുള്ള ഒരു റെസിഡൻഷ്യൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റൃുട്ട് ആണിത്. 617 ഏക്കറോളം വരുന്ന മനോഹരമായ IIT-മദ്രാസിൻ്റെ ക്യാമ്പസ് തമിഴ്നാടിൻ്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ചെന്നൈ നഗരത്തോട് ചേർന്ന് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗ് സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ റാങ്ക് ലിസ്റ്റിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ നാലുവർഷങ്ങളായി തുടർച്ചയായി IIT Madras ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനത്തു തുടരുകയാണ് കൂടാതെ മാനവ വിഭവശേഷി വികസന മന്ത്രാലയം പുറത്തിറക്കിയ 2019 ലെ NIRF റാങ്കിങ്ലും ഒന്നാമതായിരുന്നു IIT - മദ്രാസിൻ്റെ സ്ഥാനം. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായാണ് IIT Madras കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഇവക്കെല്ലാം അപ്പുറം ഇന്ത്യയിലെ വിവിധ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ നിന്നും ഒട്ടനേകം വിദ്യാർഥികൾ ഇവിടെ പഠിക്കുന്നു, അവരുമായി ഇടപഴകുന്നതിനും വിവിധ സംസ്കാരങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചു മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നതിനും ഉള്ള അവസരങ്ങൾ ഇതുമൂലം ഇവിടുത്തെ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്ക് ലഭിക്കുന്നു.

Eligibility:
- The Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Civil/ Chemical/ Computer Science/Electrical/Mechanical/Metallurgical/Naval Architecture OR a Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering

In addition, the following non-Civil Engineering degree qualifications are also eligible for different specialisations but M.Sc. degree holders in Science with two years of experience admitted to the M.S. programme should take additional engineering courses to acquire enough engineering background.

Eligibility:
- First-class graduates with a minimum aggregate average of 70% marks (relaxed by 5% for SC/ST candidates) in Civil Engineering from a recognized University/Institute are eligible to apply. The candidates should have a valid GATE score at the time of applying. Final year students who will secure the eligible degree before the commencement of the course can also apply.

3. Dual Degree Program
- The Dual Degree program is a five year program. At the end of five years, the student is awarded both a B.Tech. and M.Tech. degree.

If selected, the applicant will be asked to join the Institute on a given date.

Note: M.S. admission requires a valid GATE score. The test/interview is in addition to the GATE score. The GATE score is only to shortlist candidates who are eligible to appear in the test/interview. After that, admission depends solely on the performance in the test/interview.
