എൻയുഎഎൽഎസ് - ഒരു അവലോകനം നാഷണൽ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഓഫ് അഡ്വാൻസ്ഡ് ലീഗൽ സ്റ്റഡീസ് (എൻയുഎഎൽഎസ്) സ്ഥാപിതമായത് കേരള സംസ്ഥാന നിയമസഭയുടെ 2005-ലെ നിയമം 27 പ്രകാരമാണ്. ഇതേ നിയമപ്രകാരം, 2002-ൽ ബാർ കൗൺസിൽ ഓഫ് കേരള ട്രസ്റ്റ് സ്ഥാപിച്ച നാഷണൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഫോർ അഡ്വാൻസ്ഡ് ലീഗൽ സ്റ്റഡീസ് (എൻഐഎഎൽഎസ്) എൻയുഎഎൽഎസ്-ൽ ലയിച്ചു. 2008-ൽ, ഒരു ഭേദഗതി സർവ്വകലാശാലയുടെ അധികാരികളുടെ അധികാരങ്ങളും പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും കാര്യക്ഷമമാക്കുകയും കേരള സർക്കാരിന്റെ സജീവമായ ഇടപെടൽ ഉറപ്പാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. യുജിസി ആക്ടിലെ സെക്ഷൻ 2(f) വകുപ്പും 12B വകുപ്പും പ്രകാരം യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഗ്രാന്റ്സ് കമ്മീഷൻ അംഗീകരിച്ചതാണ്. ഇത് അസോസിയേഷൻ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യൻ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റീസ് (എഐയു) അംഗവുമാണ്.നിയമം, നിയമ, ജുഡീഷ്യൽ പ്രക്രിയകൾ, പ്രൊഫഷണൽ നിയമ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം, ദേശീയ വികസനത്തിൽ അവരുടെ പങ്ക് എന്നിവയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പഠനവും അറിവും മുന്നോട്ട് കൊണ്ടുപോകാനും പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുക, അഭിഭാഷകവൃത്തി, നിയമ സേവനങ്ങൾ, നിയമനിർമ്മാണം, നിയമ പരിഷ്കാരങ്ങൾ മുതലായവയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് കഴിവുകൾ വികസിപ്പിച്ച് സമൂഹത്തെ സേവിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ഉത്തരവാദിത്തബോധം വിദ്യാർത്ഥിയിലും ഗവേഷക പണ്ഡിതനിലും വളർത്തിയെടുക്കുക, ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിന് ആവശ്യമായ നിയമ, ജുഡീഷ്യൽ പരിഷ്കാരങ്ങൾ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുക എന്നിവയാണ് സർവ്വകലാശാലയുടെ പ്രധാന ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങൾ.
Programmes Offered
1.B.A.LL.B. (HONS)
- NUALS offers a Five Year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme. From the 2009 Admissions the course is offered under the Choice Based Credit & Semester System. The Five Year Programme is divided into Ten Semesters i.e., there are two semesters in each academic year. As part of its B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme the University offers courses on frontier areas of law such as Maritime Law, Media & Telecommunications Law, Forensic Science, Psychological Medicine & Law. The teaching pedagogy is non-conventional with a combination of various methods of law teaching – lectures, discussions, case study, moot courts and project work.
Eligibility
- The candidate for CLAT shall have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate examination (Plus two) or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least 45 % marks.Exemption upto 5% from the requirement of the minimum of 45% for the qualifying examination is given to the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) [declared eligible for reservation in the State of Kerala] and upto 3% to the candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes [declared eligible for reservation in the State of Kerala]. These categories are allowed to apply for CLAT if they obtain not less than 40 % and 42 % of marks, respectively, in the qualifying examination.Students who are appearing for the qualifying examination are allowed to appear for CLAT. However, they should submit the results of the qualifying examination at the time of admission. If they do not do so, the candidates shall be considered ineligible.
Entrance Examination
- Degree course shall be based on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
2. LLM
- The LL.M. Degree Programme of NUALS is a full time regular course of One year duration in the credit and semester system consisting of two semesters. A student who is admitted to the LL.M. Degree Programme can opt to pursue the Programme under any one of the subject groups offered by the University in that year. The three subject groups that are presently offered by the University are (1) International Trade Law, (2) Constitutional and Administrative Law and (3) Public Health Law. A student enrolled under a particular subject group will have to undergo compulsory, core and elective courses. Term Research Paper, Tutelage, Clinical Legal Education, Dissertation and Viva-Voce are the other components of the LL.M.
Eligibility
- NUALS offers One year LL.M. Programme in three distinct branches, ie. (i) International Trade Law, (ii) Constitutional and Administrative Law and (iii) Public Health Law. The total intake for the LL.M. Programme in the three streams shall be 60 seats.A candidate shall have passed the 5 year Integrated B. A. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 50 % of the total marks in the aggregate [Not less than 45% in the case of SC/ST (declared eligible for reservation in the State of Kerala) candidates.
Entrance Examination
- Course shall be based on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) on Merit-cum-Preference basis.
3. Post Graduate Diploma in Insurance Law
- Post Graduate Diploma in Insurance Law has been started as part of introducing specialisations in diversified and developing areas to achieve the objective of the University. This course aims to cater to the informational and educational needs of those aspiring to makea career in the growing field of General and Life insurance, practitioners in the Insurance sector and who would like to pursue their specialisation in cases and disputes related to insurance.
4. Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics
- The course is designed to cater to the needs of lawyers and healthcare professionals. It is especially suitable for actual/intending lawyers in the fields of clinical negligence litigation, mental health, bioethics, human rights, resource allocation and treatment decisions relating to patients lacking decision making capacity.
Eligibility
- Candidates admitted to the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics should possess a Bachelor’s Degree of a recognized University in any stream. Those who possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any system of medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, hospital administration or a Bachelors’ Degree in Law recognized by NUALS shall be given preference.
5.Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Law
- The Post Graduate Diploma covering fundamentals of Cyber Law with specialfocus on e-commerce, intellectual property issues, cyber crimes and digital evidence, both from national and international perspectives, is tailor made to cater to the requirements of a wide range of professionals
Eligibility
- Candidates admitted to the Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Law should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any stream or a Bachelors’ Degree in Law recognized by NUALS. Preference will be given to those who possess degree in law.
6.Post Graduate Diplom in Banking Law
- The Financial sector, more specifically, Banking Sector has become very vibrant after implementation of new economic policy and introduction of financial sector reforms by the Government/Reserve Bank Of India. The impact of these changes is seen in the form of competition, technological up-gradation, diversification and thrust on various aspects of Finance sector with special emphasis on retail banking with aggressive marketing strategy.
7.PG Diploma in Education Laws & Management
- Post Graduate Diploma course in Education Laws and Management is organised as a part of the Continuing Education Programme of NUALS. The course aims to provide legal guidance and training to professionals in the fields of Education, management, and Law. The course explores the Constitutional right to Education, the Regulatory framework of the Educational Sector in India, understanding the nature of the concept of education, education as a human rights, administration, and management in the educational field, overall product knowledge. It specifically deals with general and higher education in India and also gives an insight into professional and technical education in India.
8.Ph.D
- A candidate who wishes to pursue a programme of study and research leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) will be required to seek registration to the programme under these Regulations as a Full-Time or Part-Time research student in the University or in an institution recognized for this purpose by the University.
Eligibility
- Candidates seeking registration to the Ph.D. programme shall hold a Master’s Degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination, or a minimum CGPA of 6.0 in the 10 point scale (or an equivalent grade in similar scales). A candidate belonging to SC/ST community shall be eligible for concession up to 5% marks in the minimum eligible marks for admission.Candidates seeking registration shall have passed the Departmental Admission Test (DAT) and ranked as per the norms laid down in Clause 9 of the Regulations.
- Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET Lecturership examination are exempted from DAT. They can join for Ph.D. at any time. However, UGC-NET LecturershipCandidates will be eligible for University Research Fellowship (URF) only if they qualify DAT and get ranked. Foreign students who have been sponsored under a scholarship scheme by the Government of India for undergoing Ph.D. programme in India, are also exempted from DAT.
- Teachers of Universities/Colleges in Kerala and teachers who are working in Quasi Government/Government Institutions recognized by the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, with a minimum continuous service of five years as permanent employees are exempted from DAT.
