Course Introduction:

റേഡിയോ ആക്ടീവ് ഐസോടോപ്പുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് മനുഷ്യശരീരത്തിൻ്റെ  ആന്തരിക അവയവങ്ങളുടെ ഇമേജിംഗ് പഠിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കോഴ്സാണ് ന്യൂക്ലിയർ മെഡിസിൻ ടെക്നോളജി. 1930 ൽ ഏണസ്റ്റ് ഒർലാൻഡോ ലോറൻസ് 'സൈക്ലോട്രോൺ' കണ്ടെത്തിയതോടെയാണ് ന്യൂക്ലിയർ മെഡിസിൻ ആരംഭിച്ചത്. 1928 ൽ ബെർക്ക്‌ലിയിലെ കാലിഫോർണിയ സർവകലാശാലയിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച ഗവേഷണത്തിൻ്റെ ഫലമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു ഈ കണ്ടെത്തൽ. ന്യൂക്ലിയർ മെഡിസിൻ ടെക്നോളജിയിലൂടെ അല്ലാതെ, എക്സ്-റേ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ശരീര പേശികൾ, കുടലുകൾ, രക്തക്കുഴലുകൾ, മറ്റ് ആന്തരിക അവയവങ്ങൾ പോലുള്ള മൃദുവായ ടിഷ്യുകളെ ദൃശ്യവൽക്കരിക്കുന്നത് വളരെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ന്യൂക്ലിയർ മെഡിസിൻ എല്ലാ കാര്യങ്ങളിലും ഒരു വിപ്ലവം തന്നെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു, ഒരു ചെറിയ അളവിൽ റേഡിയോ ആക്ടീവ് രാസവസ്തു / പദാർത്ഥം വ്യക്തിയുടെ ശരീരത്തിലേക്ക് ഇൻജെക്റ്റ് ചെയ്യുകയോ, ടാബ്ലറ്റ് ആയോ, അതുമല്ലെങ്കിൽ ശ്വസനത്തിലൂടെയോ കടത്തിവിടുന്നു. ഈ  ചെറിയ തോതിൽ ഉള്ള റേഡിയോ ആക്ടീവ് പദാർത്ഥം ശരീര കോശങ്ങളാൽ ആഗിരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയും പിന്നീട് റേഡിയേഷൻ പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു, ഇത്തരത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടാവുന്ന റേഡിയേഷൻ, ഡിറ്റക്ടറുകൾ കണ്ടെത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
