Introduction

Kishore Vaygyanika Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship given by the Department of Science and Technology under the Government of India since 1999 with the objective of developing research aptitude in the fields of basic science, engineering, and medicine among students. Selected students are given scholarships up to Ph.D. A separate exam is conducted for each section. The candidates who are eligible for the scholarship are selected by conducting an interview followed by the best performers in the Aptitude Test (Written Test) conducted at various centers across the country.

Eligibility criteria

  • KVPY offers fellowships to Indian nationals who wish to pursue higher education in India. Students pursuing/desiring to pursue a degree program under the distance education scheme/correspondence course of any university are not eligible to apply.
  • Those who passed the interview and the aptitude exam are eligible for the scholarship.
  • Candidates are divided into three streams namely SX, SA, and SB. Below are the criteria for each stream.

Stream SX: Candidates must be 11th class admissions in science subjects this year. Must have secured not less than 80% aggregate marks (70% for SC/ST/PWD categories) in mathematics and science subjects in the 10th class board examination. Those who are selected in this category will start receiving the fellowship when they get admission in first-year science subjects

Stream SA: Must be 12th class admission in science subjects this year. Must have passed the 10th class board examination with not less than 80% marks in aggregate (70% for SC/ST/PWD categories) in Mathematics and Science subjects.Must secure not less than 60% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/PWD categories) in science subjects in class 12th board examination.

Stream SB: Must be admitted in 1st year BSc/BS/B.Stat./B.Math/ Integrated MSc/MS programs this year. Must have passed 12th class board examination with not less than 60% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST/PWD categories) in science subjects.

Scholarship rewards

  • SA/SX/SB During 1st - 3rd years of  B.Sc/B.Sc/ B.Stat/B.Math/Integrated M.Sc /MS -  Monthly Fellowship - 5000,  Annual Contingency Grant - 20000
  • SA/SX/SB  - during  M. Sc. / 4th to 5th  years of Integrated M.Sc. /M.S./M.Math./M.Stat - Monthly Fellowship - 7000,  Annual Contingency Grant - 28000
