Overview
ഇന്ദിരാഗാന്ധി ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഡെവലപ്‌മെന്റ് റിസർച്ച് (ഐജിഐഡിആർ) ഒരു മൾട്ടി ഡിസിപ്ലിനറി വീക്ഷണകോണിൽ നിന്ന് വികസന പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങളിൽ ഗവേഷണം നടത്തുന്നതിനായി റിസർവ് ബാങ്ക് ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ സ്ഥാപിക്കുകയും പൂർണമായും ധനസഹായം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നൂതന ഗവേഷണ സ്ഥാപനമാണ്. കേവലം ഒരു ഗവേഷണ സ്ഥാപനമായി ആരംഭിച്ച്, പിഎച്ച്.ഡി ആരംഭിച്ചപ്പോൾ അത് ഒരു സമ്പൂർണ്ണ അദ്ധ്യാപന ഗവേഷണ സ്ഥാപനമായി അതിവേഗം വികസിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന്, യുജിസി നിയമത്തിലെ സെക്ഷൻ 3 പ്രകാരം ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഒരു ഡീംഡ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയായി അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സാമ്പത്തികശാസ്ത്രം, ഊർജം, പരിസ്ഥിതി നയങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയുടെ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ പരിഹരിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്ന വൈവിധ്യമാർന്ന അച്ചടക്ക പശ്ചാത്തലമുള്ള ഗവേഷകരെ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് പ്രോഗ്രാം ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത്. ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം വിശാലമായ അന്തർ-ശാസന വീക്ഷണകോണിൽ (സാമ്പത്തിക, സാങ്കേതിക, സാമൂഹിക, രാഷ്ട്രീയ, പാരിസ്ഥിതിക) വികസന വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ ഗവേഷണം പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുകയും നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുക എന്നതാണ്. വികസന പ്രക്രിയയെക്കുറിച്ചും ഇതര നയ ഓപ്ഷനുകളെക്കുറിച്ചും ഉള്ള ഉൾക്കാഴ്ചകൾ നേടാനും അറിവ് കൂടുതൽ പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കാനും ഇത് വഴി ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നു.
Programmes Offered
1.M.Sc. in Economics
- This is a two-year programme, which imparts students with a rigorous and hands-on training in Economics, with special emphasis on analytical and problem solving skills as well as exposure to emerging policy issues at the national and international levels. This programme involves a successful completion of either 16 courses or 15 courses and a Master’s thesis. It is aimed at all those with necessary quantitative prerequisites who would like to be grounded in economic analysis.
Eligibility
- Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. programme includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com./B.Stat./B.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E. with at least a second division for Economics discipline and first division for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.
2.Ph.D in Development Studies
- The Ph.D. programme is designed to create academic researchers as well as professionals who are capable of conducting policy analysis, relating to national and global economic and development issues, from a quantitative and inter-disciplinary perspective. While an interdisciplinary approach is encouraged, the programme lays somewhat larger emphasis on economics to provide an integrated framework within which various development issues can be addressed. Ph.D. students are expected to submit their dissertations within four years of joining the Institute. Ph.D. programmes involve successful completion of course work as well as submission of dissertation. M.Sc., stream students who would like to register for a Ph.D. degree need to pass the oral comprehensive examination in the form of proposal cum evaluation seminar and fulfil prescribed course and minimum grade requirements.
Eligibility
- M.A./M.Sc. in Economics/M.Stat./M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/M.B.A./M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.
